Daniel Felstead is an interaction & experiential designer, specialising in work for art, culture, and education. With a degree in Interaction Design (Ravensbourne College) and a Ph.D. in Interactive Art (RCSSD, University of London) his work, both self-directed and commercial, combines a conceptual, research and strategic approach with progressive modes of physical and digital interaction. His practice encompasses a wide range of contemporary formats and media—from exhibitions, installations, and live works, to interfaces, digital platforms, and mobile applications.
Working independently, collectively and in design studios, he has played a leading role in projects for the BBC, BFI, British Museum, Google, Holburne Museum, Jerwood Foundation, Land Securities, MAST Foundation, Nokia, Science Museum, Serpentine Galleries, Siemens, and V&A Museum.
His self-directed work has been presented at institutions including Ambika P3 Gallery (London), Lakeside Theatre (Colchester), Nottingham Trent University, The National Central Library of Florence and the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
Over the last 10 years, he has been a lecturer on the MA Fashion Futures course at Nottingham Trent University, as well as a visiting lecturer on the MA/MFA Scenography course at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, London.
He regularly presents at symposiums and conferences including EVA, Performance Philosophy, Society of Dance Research, IFFTI, TaPRA, Society of European Philosophy, and Performance Forum Lectures.
Written works have appeared in publications including: Electronic Visualization and the Arts, 2011 (BCS), Literary Platform, 2011, The Unilever Series at Tate Modern iPad app, 2012 (Tate), Play:Test, 2013 (Revolver), The Swedish Dance History Vol.4, 2013 (MDT) and Moments, 2016 (Skira).
